Ezekiel’s Prophecy of Living Water

The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea. Habakkuk 2:14

Ezekiel Chapter 47 provides a beautiful prophecy of Living Water. He is at the temple and sees a very small stream of water coming from under the alter flowing eastward. It trickled out of the temple down the south stairs. One thousand cubits from the temple the stream become ankle-deep. Then after another one thousand cubits it grew to knee-deep. One thousand cubits more and it was waist-deep, and finally it was so deep and wide that it was impassable. It seems odd that the river would become deeper and wider as it gets further from its source. The angel who was showing Ezekiel the river explained that the river was flowing south toward the Dead Sea. He said that the Dead Sea would become fresh water and many fish would live in it.  “Where the river flows everything will live.”v. 9. “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.” v.12.
In Scripture Living Water represents God’s Spirit, and also the true knowledge of God. It is interesting that this river of God’s Spirit was heading toward the most desolate wastelands, and it only became fuller and more powerful as it flowed. It reminds me of the Holy Spirit given at Pentecost to the disciples. They were faithful to take it to the surrounding countries. Everywhere it goes it gives new life and an intimate relationship with God.
In the last few verses of the last book of the Bible, Revelation chapter 22:1&2, we read that Apostle John was shown by an angel that the river of life was flowing from the throne of God through the middle of the city. He said, “On either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
Ezekiel’s prophecy will be fulfilled when Habakkuk’s words come to fruition. “The earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14
This Living Water is still flowing throughout the world today. Missionaries are working in virtually every nation on the planet. Living Water Community Transformation along with you, our partners here in the US, and our South Sudanese partners are acting as Springs of life giving water in the refugee camps in Northern Uganda. We are doing that through many different channels (churches planting, evangelistic events, discipleship groups, soccer leagues, children’s Bible clubs, preschool and primary Christian education, adult vocational/discipleship training, small business support, and Celebrate Recovery groups, to name a few.

God bless you for your partnership in this ministry.
