In Word and Deed

“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” Colossians 3:11
A small but mighty volunteer team of four took on some herculean tasks in the refugee camps. Each of us had a different assignment, but working alongside our godly refugee staff, we accomplished a great deal.

I was able to train 150 church members to share the gospel. Several different languages were spoken by the participants. Some read English, some read only their native tongue, and some could not read at all. However, through much repetition and lots of role playing, all of them came away feeling very confident in their ability to share their faith. I recalled learning in my Chronological Bible Storying seminary course that people who are illiterate have a better memory than those who are literate. I witnessed this, as several of the nonprint learners were able to memorize key Bible verses without much difficulty.

Jamie spent her time observing classrooms and training the teachers at Living Water Primary School. Jamie had inquired about the needs and came prepared with great instruction resources to leave behind. She spent considerable time with the preschool teachers. Much appreciation was expressed by the school staff.

Jared joined the adult vocational training class for students learning basic mechanics. The students primarily learn to repair motor bikes, as that provides the best chance of finding a job in the camps. Because of the loan of an automobile by Steven, our construction engineer, Jared was able to teach these students some basic car maintenance skills. The learners were very grateful to have gained new skills.

Ora Lee successfully completed the training for new leaders to begin “The Landing” groups. This is a support group for teens, much like Celebrate Recovery is for adults. CR groups for adults has been very helpful, and we pray we will see many teens helped as well. Ora Lee and my husband Bala initiated and continue to oversee the CR program in the refugee camps in Palorinya Settlement.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support for your displaced brothers and sisters in refugee camps in Northern Uganda. God is blessing your generosity.
